ποΈ DATES FOR THE DIARY
A gentle loop with close-up fallow deer and ancient oaks, the Deer Park at Dunham Massey is an easy win for families. Wide, well-kept paths make it a doddle with buggies and scooters, and there are benches dotted about for snack stops and deer-spotting.
Go early or late for the best chances to see the herd browsing the glades. In autumn, youβll hear the rut carry across the park; in winter, frosty mornings give the grassland that storybook sparkle. Itβs a big-sky place where little legs can roam and you can still keep an eye on everyone.
You can keep it short with a pond-and-meadow potter, or stretch it into a full circuit that skirts the house and old mill, simple wayfinding, no nav drama. Add a cafΓ© stop or a nosey around the formal avenues if energy allows.
Practical bits
Start/parking: Main car park at Dunham Massey (WA14 4SJ), signed from Altrincham. Pay and display applies.
Distance/time: 2-3.5 miles depending route (allow 45-90 mins at family pace).
Grade/terrain: Easy; mostly flat gravel and hard paths with short grass sections.
Dogs: Welcome on leads in the deer park (extra care during spring calving and the autumn rut).
β€οΈ Why we love it: Fresh air with wildlife wow-factor - the kind of walk where you get big memories for very little faff.
π Plan your visit
Thatβs it for this week.
